Iron Butterfly (as the name suggests, heavy / light) were pioneers of a very psychedelic, yet thoroughly intriguing brand of heavy metal. With other such groups as the Attack, Iron Butterfly developed a riff based, distortion heavy sound. This sound pinnacled on the "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida" album, which contained the phenomenally popular hit of the same name. Iron Butterfly sadly disintegrated from the public eye after this single, as not many wanted to hear the new songs they had to offer. Their presence can be heard on Black Sabbath records, and even some Who.
